Granny Mae had a slight hump in her back from having had the whooping cough when she was a teenagers in the 1920’s. She always had a lady make her dresses for her because she rarely found anything that fit her properly. Granny Mae gave me this fabric that was actually from having the original dress made and happens to be one of the few pieces I have done where the original was not surrendered but was made of the original 100% polyester fabric. As a small child, I told my grandmother that if I ever made her a dress that I would put darts in the back so it would fit properly for her. As you can see in this sample, I included the darts.
