This piece is an artistic collaboration with Laura Gilbert
On a day in mid-June, years ago when this shirt was new, I wore it tucked into a pair of sassy shorts and set out to meet the man who would become the love of my life. The relationship ended in tatters, as did the shirt.
Looking at the shirt in miniature helps me both isolate and memorialize the emotions of this important but closed chapter of my life. There’s an unexpected benefit, too -- seeing it look like new, the torn parts gone, makes what was good and to be treasured about those years paramount.
